The laws of Nature command physical life.
In so many ways humanity is determined to write new laws, bend or even break old rules that govern life as we know it. Genetic laws included.
For over sixty years the sciences of space exploration and artificial intelligence have been embodied expressions of human intelligence from within our human spaces, even our minds.
We are in a hurry to go somewhere but to do it boldly we need to set boundaries. It is funny: To travel, explore, the expanding boundaries of our actual universe or manipulate folds of life, we must most dutifully set boundaries: Actual directives in our technologies regarding just how ‘bad’ things can be allowed to get even if nefarious actors intrude into our systems.
Many in the Free World will at first frown on the notions of such restrictions. We need them.
I propose this is well within us as humans to do, but there is a reality we all must face, namely:
The level of trust and cohesiveness we must hope for and entrust to others has been the pursuit of common good advocates endlessly and yet, the human race has never been able to establish and accomplish this, broadly, but for small communities, for a brief while.
Worse? That higher form of civilization we need now, we know what it is, ideally, but our notions of commerce (John Keynes’s model) and geopolitics by which dominant cultures thrive in this world are the source and sum of all our fears.
This model of married commerce and politics will not work when the closest store shelf for that bar of gold found on Mars is 205,904,331 kilometres away. One has to get there first (do it twice), alive, dressed for the weather, and eating the same food every day, there may be no cell phone coverage most of the time due to solar storms, and it better not nothing go wrong – truly unheard-of in a human lifetime. No.
We will need a new system and it must be born, now.
Fear. We must defeat that which causes our fears and thereby hinders us. Hence, I state, that we need true HUMAN FRONTIERS.
I am a technocrat.
I sincerely embrace technology and human spirituality, each guiding the other in turn, without pause or end.
Why?
Why believe in the highest possible moral and ethical codes in our planet’s history when truly we no longer go into space “for all mankind” but in fact for Return on Investment, (R.O.I)?
The answer may not be what you think.
The answer is; to defeat Fear!
If we cannot supremely trust one another, cannot rely upon the peopled institutions that can benefit most from the dissemination of new knowledge, or materials, or energies that are discovered, but allow only one social stratum on earth (the wealthy one percent, having more wealth than the bottom 3.55 Billion poorest on earth) to horde these discoveries, and horde them out of fear compounding the crushing effects of ruinous and rapacious greed being fed by the miasma of wealth and peril in deepest space or ruled by an unbridled artificial intelligence or all the above, there can be no recovery. No longer even a reason for saving us all. There will be nothing left worth dying for.
Fear, on top of boundless greed; Is tolerated in many democratic capitalist states, but, where there is no longer even a warming sky or human smile or Winter’s brief chill to remind us of our relationship to billions like ourselves, leaves too much room for singular treachery and a conspiring fate and end, for all, man, kind. Not accomplishment and empowerment, but, more of that which we increasingly dread now: The question, “whom can we trust and who will bury us when we die”?
WE NEED HUMAN FRONTIERS.
Because we need to trust, we need assurance that our empowerment and enlightenment are dutifully pursued as we pursue the same for others.
War, waged from space would be the ultimate end of humanity.
Forget worrying about the asteroids. Humans know what and whom to hit.
Such conflict must not be fought by intelligent machines that never raise families, never run a marathon after defeating tuberculosis, never protest racial or sexual oppression or need never worry about voting or tuition debt, medical expenses, etc. However, they can help prevent it.
Such intelligent machines are structures upon our Human Frontier and help define human life as much as they are absent from mortality as we know it.
We must introduce, and give, our artificial intellects bearing and understanding of our Human Frontiers.
I know of technologies that could vastly extend and restore human life and being. They will likely never be broadly used because human greed has stifled their beacons of light amongst us.
We need the idea of Human Frontiers to build and confirm the fortunes obtained in the bone marrow chilling depths of space to finance the creativity of humanity and take fiduciary guidance and performance out of strictly human hands that dwell in conflict as they seek to fill their own hands with 399 times more wealth than the most honourable worker (Most CEOs in the western democratic, capitalist, world). No human is 399 times better at anything than any other living human being.
Our super smart machines with their artificial intelligence can be given the power of discovery to guide their computations – such technology is already old on this planet. The power to choose wisely is based upon superb rules of service and guidance from every walk of life and the outcome of many events rendered such that an electronic mind can understand and although it can make mistakes it cannot go too wrong. Such a machine as this must give us guidance toward true Human Frontiers as we leave this planet for other worlds.
Yes, we rule this world.
A new union of man and machine must work for all mankind once we leave this world and set foot on any other body. If not, we will have one more war to end all wars – unavoidably - and humanity will not write the history of it.
To avoid the very worst from space and Artificial Intelligence we must truly, “Love our neighbours as much as ourselves”! Finally!
